The Banks
The progress is getting less obvious now that the apartment buildings are complete, there steel going up for the Moerlien Lager House and it still looks like they're trying to get grass to grow on the event lawn. That event lawn is going to be a full time job for someone.
Construction on the walnut St steps
this always cracks me up
I wonder how long it takes them to realize, like Fountain Square did, that for any kind of legit band that little platform isn't going to cut it?

Chipelto?! woooow. Imma open up a McRonalds down there, too.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I'm really glad that this site is finally being put to use. When we first moved to Cincinnati five years ago, we found it mind-boggling that riverbanks were being used for parking! It just seems like such a prime asset. I also really appreciate the density, but the architecture itself is so bland and generic, and it doesn't look like high-quality construction to my fairly untrained eyes.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that there are already plenty of stages and event areas like the one being built at The Banks. I find it really alienating that are so many tightly targeted events that happen [and will happen] in the basin's public spaces. Is it not enough to just offer a space for people to be and do their own thing?
Lastly, we recently checked out the Holy Grail. Our burgers were excellent, but the mood, noise level and clientele was really lame. It felt like a frat party, but with an older crowd. I'd never seen so many pastel polo shirts in my life.
I think that lawn got screwed up early on. The had just put the sod down and immediately had an event there, with a bunch of huge tents and tables and I think it killed the sod as it never got time to root and dried out.
ReplyDeleteMaya,
ReplyDeleteWhen we moved here in '04 I was flabgasted there was a giant hole in the ground right there, prime riverfront realestate.
my opinion of the Holy Grail isn't as glowing as yours, but lets be thankfull there is somewhere for everyone. I agree with you about the event lawn, we have Fountain Square and party in the park how big is the demand for these events?
Kitty, can I go in on it too? We'll be rich!
ReplyDeleteI liked my food, but I'll never go to Holy Grail again. We ended up there because it was the only place we could find that was showing a particular IndyCar race that Michael wanted to see.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see how the Banks, Riverfront Park and Moerlein Lager House complement each other. As for Holy Grail, I think it's great that they're busy. As for the architecture of the whole thing, it's not mind-blowing but it's not a parking lot either.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the photos as always, Bob.
