Walnut Hills Redevelopment Foundation along with The Model group will be hosting an open house of the Trevarren Flats located at 975 E McMillan Street. The open house will run 11am until 3pm and will have food and drinks available.
These apartments won't last long, minutes from downtown and the University of Cincinnati this is a transit friendly spot. Peebles Corner is is still a work in progress but there are huge investments happening in the neighborhood plus a grocery across the street. The Brew House and Fireside Pizza are both a short walk from the front door.
The studios have all already been claimed so if you are interested in an apartment you will want to move fast.
Trevarren Flats is about a block east of Gilbert Ave on McMillan St.

About the only thing that could be more surreal than a city crushing snow storm, is a snow storm that is a complete miss. These storms are always a big deal to people who don't drive and live a walk-able lifestyle. Not because it puts any kind additional burden on us. But because it doesn't even matter. There are no cars trying to murder us and more importantly, there are no lines at our favorite restaurants. The number one place we love is Senate, and we really love walking in and sitting down.
So we didn't get much if any snow but that doesn't mean a gusting wind wasn't uncomfortable, normally we would walk but crossing paths with Cincinnati Metro #78 was even better, it dropped us off practically outside Senate's front door.

It hasn't exactly been a recent development for men to pamper themselves. The problem most men face, what exactly does pampering yourself mean? For many men it means running the car through the car wash. A car wash is manly of course, but you know what else is manly? Sharp blades. Like so sharp you could shave with them. Which leads us to 18|8 Fine Men's Salon. When they first contacted me, they asked if I'd like to be treated to a haircut. Yes, but you'd be wasting your talents I told them. How about a straight razor shave they countered.
OH YEAH, now you're talking.
The first thing I wondered, what is 18|8?
Their answer: "In 1913, Sheffield England, Harry Brearly discovered that adding 18% chromium and 8% nickel to steel eliminated the tendency for it to oxidize and rust. The formula, known as 18|8, transformed steel into better looking and better performing stainless steel. Just as 18|8 makes steel look and perform better, our vision and mission at 18|8 Fine Men's Salon is to help our clientele transform themselves to look and perform their best."
OK, with that out of the way I made my way into the salon and was greeted with a welcoming smile and a coffee. My kind of place already. If you've never had the opportunity to have a straight razor shave it starts with a series of hot towels and applications of different lotions to the face. Then the shaving begins. There is one very sharp straight razor but during the whole process I was in the skilled hands of stylist Marx Sizemore with 28 years of barber experience. It's a strange sensation, you can literally feel every hair exploding off your face as the razor shears it from its roots. It's intense.

For years streetcar opponents have had various arguments against the streetcar, and over the years they've fallen by the wayside one by one. And after years of the streetcar proponents claims the streetcar would transform OTR it is coming to pass.
But somehow, in an epic line of reason that borders on a sociopathic level of denial, the opponents claim these developments would have happened anyhow. That after 50 years of 4 or 5 bus routes past these locations the fact that none of them happened until streetcar tracks appeared is a colossal coincidence.
But mostly, like everything else, the simplest explanation is always correct. Rails have gravity al pull economic development to them.
Now I can't wait for all the development to spread downtown. I'll have a bunch of before and afters for downtown too!

I love coffee. I love sophisticated urban coffee shops and I really like riding my bike.
Usually in December I get a day here or there to ride but December '15 I rode everyday to work and it felt like it was going to last forever and I was looking forward to UC's Winter Season break to get even more riding in. Then realty set in, the weather cooled and the sun disappeared. I was bound and determined to get a ride in and I wanted to try M5 Espresso Lab in Hyde Park. It was a place that looked amazing on instagram.
Before I even left the condo I started hedging, I saw a bus was heading out so I figured I'd throw the bike on and just ride home once it warmed up. I got off the bus with my bike and strolled into M5 and ordered a coffee. Lucky for me a box of Brown Bear Bakery pastries came through the door right after I did. M5 is an eclectic space. Along with the espresso lab, there is a Bowers and Wilkins dealer selling high end British speakers and TVs. A Leica shop selling cameras and a large co-working space.
Back to steeling myself for the ride home. I made it about a mile on my bike, pulled over and fired up the Bus Detective app and saw a bus headed for downtown was going to appear in less than ten minutes. Thank gawd. Its amazing really, with real time GPS info, riding a bus is as convenient as driving a car. More so if you consider you don't have to worry about parking.
I didn't get much of a bike ride, but I did hang out in a contemporary space which was pretty interesting in itself with coffee and pastries.
