the future of Cincinnati

The rumor mill has it a Graeter's will open at 14th and Vine and we already know a Subway is opening at Central and Sycamore paving the way for a franchise gold rush after the streetcar begins operation. What do you think will happen first, a Pottery Barn Kids next to Park+Vine? A Starbucks next to Findlay? A W Hotel at Elm and Liberty? It seems like the wild west right now in terms of what could happen.
The future is steaming towards us even as we speak.

I wonder how much money they could raise for the streetcar selling left over pavers?

  1. I did not know that about the Subway opening at Central Parkway and Sycamore Street. I guess it makes sense with all the visitors to the casino. I don't know who in their right mind would ever willingly eat at Subway though.

  2. Especially with (good) sandwich shops galore just two blocks away on Court.

  3. Maybe this will serve as a wake up call to local entrepreneurs & developers that it's not just some weirdohs that are seeing opportunity in the area but proven big businesses are, too.

  4. I am pretty sure 3CDC does not want to lease space to anything other than an independent restaurant or local chain. Does this mean we may see the first OTR Skyline Chili or Dewey's Pizza soon? I'm sure the other non-3CDC buildings (like on Main Street and north of Liberty) are fair game for chain stores.

In other news there was a suburban style McDonald's proposed to go in where those condos are along Reading Rd across from the casino back in the 1990's. Some plucky young councilwoman at the time managed to put a stop to the tear down.

  5. A more serious question: they're going to replace the pavers, aren't they? Please tell me they aren't going to pave (with asphalt) Elm in front of Music Hall!

  6. Rest easy my friend, the pavers will be replaced, but with the tracks there will be a few left over.

  7. Unfortunately, there will be a Starbucks at the new development within the old SCPA building.

  8. Unfortunately, there will be a Starbucks inside the new development at the old Woodward High School/SCPA at Sycamore and 13th.

  9. ^^ 3CDC isn't dealing with any parts of OTR beyond Walnut Street. Main, Sycamore and Pendleton are all fair game.

  10. Just for the record I'm not advocating chains, only speculating on whether they'll try to capitalize on OTR's success.
