this, this IS the most dangerous place in the world

Yeah, 2005 there is no way in hell I'm standing at the corner of 12th and Vine I'll give you that, but after sensationalizing the story for 1/2 hour that 3 minute story on Channel 9 was disgusting, data from early in this century doesn't tell the story of OTR the last 3 years.
Cherry picking the blocks to use, I bet we could make a case Anderson is the most dangerous place in the world, or even West Chester, so I call bullshit shenanigans.

Not serving wine at the festival we headed over to Lavomatic to cool off and grab further refreshment.

I'm sure you've all seen the story by now, I'm not rehashing it, but UrbanCincy did have this gem pulled straight off the website.

"...These rough rankings provide no insight into the numerous variables that mold crime ... they lead to simplistic and/or incomplete analyses ... create misleading perceptions adversely affecting communities.."

  1. The months after we moved downtown a kid was tragically killed just west of Hyde Park Square, 2 guys were shot and killed in a Withrow parking lot and a guy was murdered in the Mulligan's parking lot near Rookwood. Thankfully no one picked that small area and period of time and declared Hyde Park the murder capital.

  2. I'm surprised we didn't run into each other at Lavomatic! I read the bogus report and it was immediately discredited by the fact that I'd just had a damn good/safe/lovely time in (gasp!) OTR, as evidenced by my blog post.

  3. That would have been awesome Tamia, but watching your tweets Saturday, I think you got there after I was already home. I definitely would have said hi if I had saw you.

  4. Pictures of people in OTR always make me sad because I know that by the time I see 'em the folks are all dead.
    so sad.....

  5. I would stand at 12th and Vine in 2005. I would stand there in 1999.

Regular visitor of the old Warehouse (1313 Vine) and never had a problem. Walked home from the Cellblock (Jail Alley) Halloween party in a clown costume at 3AM (in '03 or so) - walked from OTR to Fairview. No problems at all.

The crime down there has always been overrated and it stands that if you're not involved with drugs (buying or selling) you're probably going to be alright.

  6. White suburbanistas need reasons to avoid areas inside the city limits.

The scary story made the rest of us feel so brave. Thank you, teevee peoples.

  7. Thanks for the OOoooo scary and "dangerous as all get out" comments. You made me laugh this morning - but not as much as this absurd study done by some hack website.

    Long live OTR.

I'm dying to live there because I know I'd live there 'til I die.

  8. Even thought throughout my life there have been interesting times down in OTR, it is by far NOT the most dangerous. I volunteer at a soup kitchen there. Nothing to be scared about.
