dérive

A walk to observe the streetcar reboot of OTR from a sidewalk perspective.
Its amazing how much you can miss driving, watching where you're going your vision narrows down to a small tunnel. Riding a bike, you notice even more but that tunnel vision has only widened slightly. No, you have to walk it to really see what is.
For instance, wood cobbles peaking out from broken asphalt in Wilkymacky Alley.

reboot OTR
The streetcar will wrap around two sides of this lot, it won't stay a parking lot long.
reboot OTR
reboot OTR
A senior center will occupy this building, no need for them to beg a ride anywhere with a stop across the street.
reboot OTR
Many buildings have these cool courtyards. Reminds me of when we walked around Paris.
reboot OTR
Another lot, the Findlay Gardens, this won't stay empty long either.
reboot OTR
Looks like people other than downtowners are already benefiting from the streetcar.
reboot OTR
It amazed me how seemingly the entire OTR loop of the streetcar is under construction at the moment. Maybe it will be running by the All Star Game.
Also can someone tell me where the streetcar stop is for Findlay Market? It appears Cincy Bell put a new manhole cover right in the middle of it.
reboot OTR
The main entrance to Rhinegeist Brewery, steps from the streetcar stop. Just a few drunken steps.

This building is going to go to make way for the substation. No worries, thats not the original facade, nothing historic is lost.

smash everything you want

OFFF returned to Cincinnati again, the first city in the world to see a repeat of this ground breaking event. various artist and designers talking about what moves and inspires them in their work. I really liked Jon Burgerman who didn't even focus on his work but instead talked about what he sees as he moves around his world. Jim Victore I also got a kick out of, from what I heard he ruffle some feathers. His "quit your day job" take on life was out there, I wish I could do that. Actually from what he said I should do that. But, like everyone else I'm chicken sh!t.

AHHA! Something I am good at.
what the internet is about. #offfcincy
Then it was time for ON! Handcrafted Digital Playgrounds an interactive installation and all you had to do was let your creativity flow. Photography, pen and paper, wood and sound. An invitation to not just view art but also to be an active participant in art.
Dang paparazzi!

This was probably the biggest hit, Plywood, the art that spawned a thousand vine videos.

someone asked the other day if I thought I was some kinf of rebel. It doesn't matter what I think, it matters what everyone else thinks. And look what someone labeled my self portrait.

How many events do you attend that force you to take a hard look at yourself? And I'm not talking literaly in a mirror, but deep down in, what are you doing and what does it even mean.
OFFF and ON have been one of those events for me.[where: 45202] best place to learn how to live downtown cincinnati ohio the ethos of Cincinnati

Carpe Diem 2.0: Bayou Fish House

Its not really fair comparing a church fish fry to trained professionals, but dems da breaks, we're gonna do it anyhow. We've been wanting to try the fish at Bayou Fish House since they've opened and haven't had a chance until now. The place flies below the radar a little on York St, its easy to miss unless you're looking for it.
Last Friday was an odd night, way to many things going on and the normal fish fry group split up and kind of went their own ways. Or we did at least.
So Bayou, the fish was excellent, super crunchy crust and tender inside, very flavorful. Same with the french fries, they were lightly battered then deep fried to perfection. And I mean perfection, these will probably be the best fries you eat anywhere. The rest of the sides were all up to the same standards. The gumbo was spicy. The Bayou bites, battered jalepeño rings were tangy without becoming over powering. Ms 5chw4r7z loved the mac&cheese bites. The cole slaw wasn't the traditional creamy slaw but I was digging the subtle vinegar taste.
I gave Bayou a 4.5 which actually if Mary Queen of Heaven got a 4.5 maybe Bayou should be a 4.75. Its as good as it gets.

There are only four or five tables but they turn over quick and once the weather warms up there's a deck out back.

Re-envisioning the Female Body

Is Re-envisioning the Female Body an,
Art show? yes.
Activism? yes again.
Kate Elliot;

The pose of the models is from an ironically medical perspective: one with legs fully spread, as if at the gynecologist, as the female body has been compartmentalized by legislative healthcare decisions.
There has been a ramping up of the war on women the past four or five years. A war on their bodies, their health care and education. Three things most important to independence. Just last week 138 House Republicans Voted Against the Violence Against Women Act. I guess really its been going on forever, it just ebbs and flows like everything else. But that doesn't mean its right.
Re-envisioning the Female Body
Re-envisioning the Female Body
Shocking? yes.
Designed to garner a strong reaction? yes
But no more shocking than the pictures of aborted fetuses paired with genocide victims on campus last year that this show is a direct response to.

Kudos to UC President Santa Ono,
“These intellectual exchanges, while invigorating, can also be challenging and at times polarizing, but at a university like ours they cannot be extinguished.”
The show continues today 11am - 3pm on McMicken Commons.

downtown, it ain't for the faint of heart

all kinds of cool stuff going on lately. unfortunately its been overshadowed by the opening of the casino which everyone treats like god reached out from heaven and touched Cincinnati.
the media is falling all over themselves to see who can kiss the casinos ass the hardest and in a way i guess I can't blame them because the casino has to spend advertising money somewhere and no one is about to bite a hand that might feed them.
Meanwhile i'm trying to picture what a night drinking in one of the casino's mall restaurants might be like and I can't shake the fear I'll get cornered by some Eddie Bauer and he'll find out I live downtown. oh great, now here comes the part where he tells me he bought a house with 62 rooms and 50 acres in shitsville Ohio for the same price I paid for my condo. That one never gets old does it? And where the hell do I grocery shop? there ain't a Walmarts for miles (I'm guessing because I could care less about the 10th wonder of the world that is Walmart)
yeah i'm not bitter about it at all
