Oscar Night Downtown

Every year we talk about dressing up and going to a swanky party to watch the Oscars but never do, this year the talking is over and the doing begins. Watching the Oscars and helping the less fortunate at the same time, doesn't get much better than that. Live it up and be swanky guilt free. Head downtown to Carew Tower for People Working Cooperatively - Oscar's After Party. Although I still don't know why they call it after, since it takes place during, but there you go.

Named one of USAToday's "Top Ten Place to see The Oscars"

Taking place Sunday, March 7th *pm to midnight in the Hilton Carew Tower Arcade, the After Party will be a fun night that includes dancing, casino games, a private Oscar viewing lounge, delicious foods catered by the Hilton, specialty drinks and more for just $20.
Pay at the door or call 513-351-7921.

Oscar Night is PWC’s major fundraising event. Proceeds from the event benefit the organization’s Modifications for Mobility program, which assists with critical home modification projects that are typically too expensive for its low-income, disabled clients, including handicapped-accessible ramps, grab bars, bathroom and kitchen modifications. You can learn more about the program here.

Don't want to pay $20 but still want to hang out with some of the coolest people in Cincinnati? I will award a pair of tickets to a random winner Friday afternoon, and you can pick the tickets up at will call the night of the party.

Mad Men? Mad Style!!

Mad Men yourself is all the rage on twitter these days for creating custom avatars.

mad men

I think they were taking notes from you know who when they created it.
Who needs an animated website when you have friends with all the mad fashion sense you need?

I'm rocking that hat like a rocking chair in a tornado.

i ain't worried

Is that the tipping point, when you start feeling comfortable in a hat you're getting old?
not sure if I care, I'm styln and rockn my inner Clark Kent with this hat.
We're heading to an outdoor wedding on Lake Erie, not even looking for a hat and saw this and it popped.
No burned head for me this weekend.
But here's an interesting development, crowd sourced fashion advice, I already knew I wanted it but sometimes I don't have the self confidence I should. A quick twitter picture and everyone came back with a resounding yes!
And this isn't a fluke either, a couple weeks ago, while buying a suit, a salesman was talking a tweep into pleated pants, this guys a twenty-something and asked advice, two other women and I told him NO, whatya crazy?
Saving the Cincinnati fashion scene one tweet at a time.

Kwame Jackson on life, The Apprentice and everything else

Hello? is this thing on?

GQ photoshoot

The first question is, what the hell do I wear to meet a fashion designer?
channel my inner Cincinnati rock star?

I campaigned pretty heavy on Kate and RedkatBlone's blogs to get in on this and after a random drawing I WON!
Yeah for me.
I really didn't know what to expect going into this I was thinking that "having lunch with Kwame Jackson" meant being in the same room with, but thats not how it was at all.
It turned out to be four of us and him, sitting around talking ties, fashion and tech. Oh and Kate was there so a little sex too.

He even had a good grasp on what we were about, as in we blogged and twittered.
But like most people I don't think he had the full grasp of twitter, focusing on the noise. We actually had people following the lunch fully engaged asking questions, the signal, that’s the lesson everyone needs to take from twitter.

But enough of ME, like I said I didn't know what to expect but Kwame was smart, intelligent, dynamic and engaging.
Its always refreshing to talk to someone not encumbered by the normal rules and is out there twisting the world around into the shape he wants it.
He was the only Apprentice finalist not to be fired, what does that tell you about him?
But on the same token he was incredibly normal, why does it always surprise me that people are human too?
One thing I thought odd, this was about his new line of ties, besides the one he was wearing where were they? I was expecting a display. But I'm not in marketing so maybe this was all about him?
If so good, that was enough for me.

He's lived all over the country and when asked his favorite city he said New York, no where else on Earth is there that energy.
He calls this the "Hustle"
Everyone there is working on their hustle striving to be the best at what they do. They may come off cold or distant, but that’s because they have that laser like focus to be the best dancer, the best actor, the best bum. And then the transportation, subways and buses mash it all together, CEOs, stock brokers, actors mixed up with the bums.
Hmmm, does that sound like what another city is trying to do?
A city real close to here?
streetcars?

Gotta mention the food real quick, the turkey club was awesome, and the bread pudding, I was going to poke at it to be polite but I tasted it and let out a WOW! and everyone agreed. Kwame said he wasn't into bread pudding and we were all talking when out of nowhere he lets out a WOW! so I would say if you go to McCormick & Schmick's, get the bread pudding.
