Aster on Fourth

Aster, from the Greek word for star, refers to a genus of old world flowers. Not familiar with them? I'm not surprised, the Alpine aster is the only Aster native to North America and you'll never see a wild one downtown.
Speaking of downtown, I know it isn't the place most people head to on a regular basis for something to do. Downtown is the preserve of corporate suits trying to close deals or celebrating the closure of those deals. Or special events, people love those huge larger than life downtown events.
What does all of this or any of this have to do with an old world flower? Only that I get excited when a new business opens downtown. And Aster on Fourth, a new sippery from the creators of Sleepy Bee officially opens this Wednesday after a soft weekend opening. A sippery implies drinks that are meant to be sipped, cocktails of course. I've always struggled to find a cocktail I truly liked and had pretty much given up on them a few years ago. But two of the featured cocktails, the Valerian Steel and the Gray Chambray changed my mind. Neither are sweet, more rich and masculine, I'm not sure how to describe them other than I really liked them. The Gray Chambray is going to be my go-to for sure.
Aster on Fourth is also going to be serving up light bites. The curry and marrow spread on Allez bread was a Niagara Falls of rich flavor.
Craft cocktails, new twists on food, Aster on Fourth looks like its going to be the best place in the city for palaver and degustation!

  1. Come on, man! Niagara. It's an Iroquois (probably) word.

    No connection to Viagra.
