My impression of it was that it's just a clique like any other that had to have some sort of elitist chip on their shoulder to separate themselves from the rest...on the other hand it did keep him out of trouble that I think he would have otherwise been in so live and let live I suppose.Bethanyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03360099096213865412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5174432287932211168.post-35970416582481469302013-02-07T20:25:00.275-05:002013-02-07T20:25:00.275-05:00I'd like to know what "but, it IS Dayton&...I'd like to know what "but, it IS Dayton" means. His ability to reduce nature to a it's most simplistic lines was fab. His book is possibly the neatest coffee table book ever.
http://www.amazon.com/Charley-Harper-Illustrated-Todd-Oldham/dp/1934429821vudutuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11140231284137484910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5174432287932211168.post-9081859573989318922013-02-05T14:05:35.474-05:002013-02-05T14:05:35.474-05:00Maybe it was catnip!Maybe it was catnip!5chw4r7zhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00635910297238841220noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5174432287932211168.post-22182088522205568492013-02-05T12:58:43.286-05:002013-02-05T12:58:43.286-05:00Another logo to add to the list: Cincinnati's ...Another logo to add to the list: Cincinnati's own Brighton Exchange.

I can't think of a peacock print [I used to remember all the Harpers really well!], but I'm thinking it's Flamboyant Feathers, Catnip, or Provocative Plumage. It reminded me of the streetflakes you did for the CAC.
I imagine you have to be aware of whats going on and at the same time have a laser like focus on what you do.
5chw4r7zhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00635910297238841220noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5174432287932211168.post-22075078645432324032013-02-05T11:32:21.090-05:002013-02-05T11:32:21.090-05:00Which Harper was it?

Keeping up with that stuff can be paralyzing -- there's truly nothing new under the sun.VisuaLingualhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05940655509018040523noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5174432287932211168.post-45667555769985165132013-02-05T10:19:14.778-05:002013-02-05T10:19:14.778-05:00I went to many straightedge shows in DC in the lat...I went to many straightedge shows in DC in the late 80's/early 90's. I've heard the concept of what this article is detailing called long tail, as in the long tail of a graph. The internet has made it possible for these impossibly tiny niches to become mainstream.

On a side note, I wish I had bookmarked or saved this one piece of Charlie Harper artwork I came across online. I saw it and a bomb went off in my head, mushroom cloud and everything. I know you talk about it all the time but it was like finding Ida, and I thought OMG Harper -> Visualual -> OTR I could actually see all three things in one composition.
OK, like I said you talk about it, it was just the first time I really saw it.5chw4r7zhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00635910297238841220noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5174432287932211168.post-54035095812515167402013-02-05T08:45:32.270-05:002013-02-05T08:45:32.270-05:00It's a pretty funny/ridiculous appropriation. ...It's a pretty funny/ridiculous appropriation. BTW, this exhibit review doesn't mention straightedge specifically, but it's a fascinating look back at the year 1993, and a lot of the trends from back then are back, even while some of the attitudes that were just emerging then have been completely subsumed by pop culture: http://nymag.com/arts/art/features/1993-new-museum-exhibit/index1.html.VisuaLingualhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05940655509018040523noreply@blogger.com
