Fusian

Fusian's new location at 600 Vine St, ten months of planning they told me, looking at the place it sure was worth it. I remember over the summer I would run into one of the guys going to or coming from a meeting with FRCH, and each time they were a little more excited about the design of the new place. Got to be I couldn't wait to see it either. And here it is. Same great sushi you've always loved, stylish new place to enjoy it in.
Up until now you could go to OTR or the Moerlien House for sophistication, but now we have this little Japanese den of cool right smack in the middle of downtown.
One word of advice here, no matter how tempting it is, don't climb on the fountain in the outside plaza for a picture, that thing is slick, I did a slow motion somersault off it for comic effect.

Did you know almost everything in Fusian is compostable? The lids, cups, napkins and tray liners are all corn-based plastic. Fusian provides a trash bin and a recycling bin but unless you bring in something from outside, nothing provided really goes into either of those. Marvin's Organic Gardens swings by and collects the compostable trash and composts it in Lebanon. With the environment looming large on everyone's minds these days its really cool to see another local business on the forefront and concerned about what goes into landfills.

Everything is compostable. Everything except for this.

Always cool to see local guys do good.
And I'm not joking about that fountain outside, its a killer, you've been warned.

don't you wish you were dead like me

I really hope Bakersfield considers this a success and does Día de los Muertos again next year. Everyone I saw and talked to was having a blast.
I realized Cinco de Mayo and Día de los Muertos are six months apart. Then thought, America really does steal everyone's ideas, we stuck the 4th of July and Christmas six months apart. Boggles the mind if you think too deeply about it.

been experimenting with different photo apps on the iPhone. I shot this picture the other day, applied filters from a couple different apps and got this cool image that looks a 100 years old.
Wish photoshop was this easy.

to live and ride in Cin-say

We won't have many more evenings this nice. Of course we've been saying that the last 3 weeks and we keep being gifted with another pleasant evening. But this probably was the last Tuesday night UBBC ride of the season so it brought a bunch of riders out for a quick tour of the eastern part of Covington.
Best part of the ride? Shooting over Roebling and being able to look straight through the metal grate to the river below.

pinhole

yeah I'm a dork, where some people throw cubic money at equipment I've always been more interested in the process and results than how fancy the camera is. I'm not concerned with a technically perfect picture.
guess that's why I've always wanted to try shooting with a pinhole camera. The problem is, lack of a darkroom is a giant hurdle which is why I never have.
Then I see Visionaries and Voices is hosting a Pinhole Camera Workshop. Nothing but a can with a hole poked in it, some film and hunk of tape. That some intuition and heap of luck and you never know just what you'll end up with.
We had 3 failures before we hit the timing right then wow did everyone capture some cool stuff. I can't even explain what its like to see an image appear as the paper develops. To shorten the process we used photo paper instead of film.

if you remember taking a picture always results in a negative as the light darkens the film.
